Booming discordant intro music and stirringly enigmatic voiceover:
"All irregularities will be handled by the forces controlling each dimension. Transuranic heavy elements may not be used where there is Life. Medium atomic weights are available - Gold, Lead, Copper, Jet, Diamond, Radium, Sapphire, Silver and Steel... Sapphire and Steel have been assigned..."

Joanna Lumley and David McCallum played the eponymous pair of interdimensional investigators charged with protecting the universe from various evil forces. Sapphire had extra-sensory powers and limited control over time, whilst Steel could reduce the temperature of objects to absolute zero and was super-humanly strong.

The special effects were deplorable, with the evil force often no more than a torchlight creeping mysteriously up the stairs or some woman with dodgy eyeliner application, but it carried an atmosphere of spooky sci-fi/horror that very few high budget shows have ever matched.
There was talk of a DVD release at some point - if you should see it somewhere, I recommend giving it a watch.

You suggest a day to see each other again. I suggest a time.
You hop into your car and start the engine. You turn and wave. I wave back.
I watch to make sure you pull out onto the highway okay.
I wonder what it would have been like to kiss you again. To hold you once more, if only briefly.
To be the guy you're driving to, instead of the guy standing out here alone.
You wanted the long slow forever and I live my life in blazing moments.
A little less bright each time.

One of lifes little ironies...
Alfred Nobel (1833 - 1896): Inventer of dynamite, explosives industrialist in more than 20 countries and patriarch of the Nobel Peace Prize.

"Although he worked for the majority of his life developing explosives, Nobel was essentially a pacifist. When, in his later years he drew up a will, he stated that he wished the majority of his nine million dollar fortune to be used to fund awards in different fields of study (Physics, Chemistry, Literature, Physiology and Medicine, Peace). He stated that the awards should be given to those who have conferred the greatest benefit to mankind.
It was five years after his death that the first Nobel awards were handed out, in 1901. The Nobel foundation had been set up to organise and structure the awards. Since their inception the Nobel prizes have come to be recognised as the highest honour a person can recieve in a particular area of study. "
(I'm sure that from certain angles this could be considered 'filler material'. Perhaps you expect justification from me? Learn to live with dissapointment...)

Somewhere out there is your soulmate - the one person who will bring you perfect love and complete your existence in every possible way imaginable.
How can people take solace in such a fucking depressing thought. There's somewhere around six and a half billion people in the world and you're gonna pin your hopes on meeting "the one"? Fuck that!
You can beat those odds people. That girl at the record shop who drops the phat tracks you wish you had the guts to ask about? She's one. The guy who you always manage to sit within perving distance of in shared lectures? He's probably one too. The random people you see on the street who catch your eye and smile? They're all prime candidates.
Love people. Love long. Love lots. Love NOW!
In the new religion: Love as thou will - shall be the whole of the law.

Although I cut down a lot on coffee (and the related sugar hit), I recently heard that coffee itself isn't so bad for you. With the chill of winter now in full swing protein shakes are a killer to get down. For the last couple of days this has been my solution:
SOLENDERS CREAMY VANILLA POWER-COFFEE!!!
Ingredients
2 heaped Tblsp 100% Whey Creamy Vanilla protein powder
100ml cold water
1 Tblsp Alta Rica instant coffee powder
400ml boiling water
Place cold water in the bottom of a large (1 pint) coffee mug.
Add protein powder and blend until smooth.
Add coffee powder and blend until smoother.
Top with boiling water and stir until smoothest.
Anyone know if I'm messing dangerously with the laws of body chemistry?

Life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on... (Part 2)
If the amount of biomass on this planet stays reasonably constant and the human race is exploding at astronomical rates - both in general numbers (most prominently in 3rd world countries) and in comparative size (based on obesity levels in the west), then isn't there a narrowing discrepancy between what we are made of and what is available for us to eat?
Someone explain to me how I'm wrong - it's crazy thoughts like this that keep me up at night...

by lungfish
paranoia worked into a gravity, it spread a smothering blanket - an evolutionary launchpad
vision was tested on blank sky and a voice said: "let me tell you about the time that something occured"
medication caused an ear to hear and a conflict of interpretation arose
landscapes were drawn from a plague of particles and the burden was distributed
the law would return as inflated skins while music initiated architecture
animals living through a velocity of fear began to modify their behaviour to comply to human observation thus dropping the keystone into the egg shell honeycomb of anthrocentric history sense
as for the plants, they had been with the music
science procured a steepled shell, dressed for immortality, hollow to hold the music
the motion repelled all opinion and refused to consider its origin
apples happened bringing acids and enzymes
the spinning recorder disguised as an endless bouquet
things became erotic at the drop of a hat
a tyrant placed an apple on a table and lorded over it
as a fish realised it held a monkey inside itself and expelled it on the beach in a larval salamander form
the voters clamoured for more circles and the whole rig began to rotate
books were used for fuel and money and everybody was writing them
the planets turned inside out to expose their freight
no charges were pressed because all involved agreed that they could die
these are secrets the world sung to me truer than the truth
a young order of birds that eats the eyes of believers
science predicted forms of worship and revelled in them
an orgy of mutation took place for many years
between stones, near water, inside clouds
the people bound their feet with the skins of the animals to trample their own cities and each other
they developed external organs like guns and television sets
they believed that they owned things
one mind in a generation will hear the eternal broadcast the voice saying:
"let me tell you about the time that something occured"
and that mind's body will be strapped down and that body's mind will be subject to testing or electric currents rippled through the brain
but the music pervades
it was music that gave the shove and resolved in music we shall breathe
it was children that crafted a parent and resolved in children we shall live...

I chose this picture as my favourite (with a 'U' you Splotch!-lovin plebians!) because although it doesn't have the exceptional 'glowing' photoshop enhancements of some of his pics, what it does have is a rather uncomfortable looking crotch shot.
This comes care of a fellow strange fish named Poist.
