Entry: On the subject of 'Last Words' Monday, October 04, 2004

Our lives are no longer bound by locality.  The internet allows us to be known, no matter how tentatively, all around the world.  We really do belong to an international social community.

I have friends all over - in Los Angeles, New York, Indonesia, Wellington, Melbourne, Japan, France, Brazil, Malaysia, Mobile and even Sedgefield (synonimous with 'Parts better left Unknown').  Just look at the site map under the tagboard on your left to see what I mean (and sign it while you're there!).

What I have always found funny about online friendships and relationships - is how they are solely based on words.  That's all I am to you really - just a collection of sentences and phrases.  A series of paragraphs trying in vain to replicate the strange thoughts that flow through my brain - like freehand sketches of impossible geometries.

I am this sentence.  And this one.  And I am all the other ones I wrote before.  And I will be all the words you will ever read that I have written.  And that is all.  Without these words you would have no sense of me - no perception at all.  We have a purely alpha-numeric relationship.

What use have I for famous last words?

Now and at my last - these words are all I shall ever be.

Just thought you ought to know that there is nothing wrong with Sedgefield.

At All.

Except for the Dog Turds, illegal parking, chewing gum on pavements, loud thumping music from Charver's cars, Roundabouts, street roadsigns, traffic obstructions, the Local Authority, the noisy late night raves in the park, and the cold winters.

I love it.

I also somehow knew that Autumn was a current or former Art major.

You aren't just words to me, either. I'm typing from your attic.

There will always be those who have met you and can personally vouch for the big heart, warm smile and hugs that lie behind the digital-alpha-numeric representation of you. I doubt that anybody reading this would get any less of an idea about the substance that is you. Even words cannot help but be imbued with your unique essence. I know you... and i can feel you through your words. So can everybody else.

This world is filled with firsts. Like the first time you see someone’s handwriting on packaging, or the first time you hear someone’s voice, be it on the answer machine. It is a first. Any communication belies more then our words. We read between the lines, we put our stresses to your words, we guess.

Your words are not yours solely. These words are taken in meaning more then in one way. Our words can lie too. Does that make you a liar?

And you have made me very angry. But all these things you’ve written, yours and mine are just words, right?
It shouldn’t matter, right?

You’re wrong. How’s that for famous last words.

I like how you think and that you question even things as "simple" as writing on a blog. If you want now you have a friend from Georgia but I am living in Italy right now. Are you saying it is a depressing or bad thing that all you are to me and everyone else you know through your, as you so adequately put it "alpha-numeric" relationships or is it just a statement you thought interesting to make. I contemplate a little too much sometimes but I love movies, songs, and people that make me look a little closer than I normally would have. If you do not like these relationships as much or find them inadequate is it because you are a visual and asthetic person. I am both I was an art major for two years and a I love to see and touch it just makes things that much grander to me. Sorry for writing such a long comment just thought I should say something to someone I will probably never meet.
